Cooley Godward Kronish bolstered its team of TM litigators this year with three lateral hires from White & Case. Heidi Keefe, Mark Lambert, and Mark Weinstein made the move to Cooley in August 2009, joining the firm's Palo Alto office. These additions facilitate successes including a recent victory for Facebook. As the social networking site's primary TM counsel, Cooley represented Facebook before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board against Think Computer. The resulting litigation over rights to the terms "Facebook" and "the Facebook" resulted in a settlement between the two parties.

Cooley brought in another lateral hire for its ITC practice in November, adding former Goodwin Procter partner Christopher Campbell to the Reston, Virginia office. Cooley's ITC department has gained notoriety in recent years as counsel for Qualcomm during the wireless technology manufacturer's recent litigation involving rival Broadcom. Steven Strauss led the Cooley team through district court motions in California and appearances before the ITC. In March 2009, Qualcomm settled the dispute for $891 million.
